CNES and GEIQ BTP to work together on long-term social and professional insertion for young people

Thursday 18 June, in CNES’s pavilion at the 51st International Paris Air Show, Olivier Mantez, Chair of the GEIQ BTP association of Guianese construction and public works employers for professional insertion and qualification, and CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall signed a partnership agreement on long-term social and professional insertion for young people finding it hard to enter the job market. The agreement covers the duration of construction work on Ariane 6 launch facilities.

At a time when employment policies increasingly rely on the support of local stakeholders, CNES, through its socially responsible sourcing approach and as prime contractor for the Ariane 6 launch facilities, is pursuing a proactive youth employment strategy. This will be achieved through a formal clause in its contracts requiring firms to hire young Guianese people experiencing difficulties entering the job market, with a view to tackling unemployment.

The GEIQ BTP trade association offers professional qualification and insertion opportunities with construction and public works firms for long-term unemployed young people in the Kourou and Sinnamary regions, establishing individual training plans and providing social and professional support for young people.

This partnership between CNES and GEIQ BTP will optimize CNES’s socially responsible sourcing policy while fulfilling the structural requirements for qualified labour of construction and public works firms in French Guiana.

As a first step in this collaboration, a recruitment board was convened at the end of May to meet the requirements of the request for proposals for the earthworks that will start this summer. Fifteen youngsters have already begun training with their mentors and the ultimate goal is to hire a total of 80 young people to work on the Ariane 6 launch facilities.

After the signature of the agreement, Jean-Yves Le Gall commented: “CNES is particularly proud to have signed this agreement, which is a testament to the importance that our agency and construction and public works firms in French Guiana attach to being good corporate citizens. This innovative system will help nurture a long-term pool of talent and boost youth employment in French Guiana.”
