CNES in Brussels with European Commission’s DG for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs

Friday 25 September in Brussels, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall met the Director General for the Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW), Lowri Evans. This was their first meeting since Lowri Evans’ appointment to head DG GROW on 1 September.

Friday 25 September, Jean-Yves Le Gall was in Brussels to meet officials at DG GROW, the European Commission’s Directorate-General for the Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, and in particular Lowri Evans, Director General since 1 September. Lowri Evans was previously Director General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.

DG GROW’s remit includes managing the internal market of goods and services, promoting entrepreneurship and developing SMEs in Europe, as well as space policy through the Copernicus and Galileo programmes.

Lowri Evans and Jean-Yves Le Gall discussed all aspects of European space policy, covering launch vehicles, relations between EU member states and the European Space Agency (ESA), Copernicus and Galileo, plus Horizon 2020—the Commission’s programme dedicated to research and innovation, a key domain at CNES. Jean-Yves Le Gall also took the opportunity to underline that space is a cross-cutting, strategic sector and a fantastic tool to boost Europe’s competitiveness.

After the meeting, Jean-Yves Le Gall commented: “I would like to thank Lowri Evans for meeting me so soon after her appointment as Director General of DG GROW. We had a very constructive discussion about the many strategic topics concerning European space policy.”
