CNES issues request for information on Earth-observation big data platform

Europe’s Copernicus programme offers access to huge volumes of environmental and security data at global and local scales. To meet its national needs, France is developing the Sentinel Product Exploitation Platform (PEPS), for which CNES is issuing a request for information (RFI) to initiate a technical dialogue on a new-generation data platform.

The PEPS platform is intended as a gateway to data from the Sentinel satellites. As such, it constitutes a first step towards closer harmonization of data dissemination platforms in Europe. With the digital revolution and the fundamental shift towards digital and new ‘big data’ technologies, the issues at stake go well beyond the space sector and concern the construction of a whole new digital geo-information ecosystem.

The purpose of the request for information (RFI) is to select stakeholders in the new Earth-observation data value chain with a view to conducting a technical dialogue to establish a national roadmap built around this new digital geo-information ecosystem.

The RFI is aimed at all industry stakeholders throughout the value chain, from geo-information data collection platforms (satellites, unmanned aerial systems, aircraft, balloons, buoys, floats, in-situ sensors, etc.) and data transformers and aggregators to suppliers of big data and cloud solutions and developers of thematic solutions and services.

Industry stakeholders who wish to take part in this RFI are invited to respond before 29 May 2015, indicating their identity, position in the value chain, core business, geo-information experience and their analysis of the challenges posed by the digital revolution in this domain and of the addressable market.
