CNES present at official launch of the United Arab Emirates

Monday 25 May in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates Space Agency (UAESA) organized its official launch ceremony. Headed by Khalifa Mohammed Al Rumaithi, UAESA was formed in July 2014 and has already signalled its intention to be a prime mover in space.

From its inception in 2014, UAESA has manifested its desire to foster cooperation with major space players and has quickly established itself as a prime mover in space, as shown by the cooperation agreement signed last month by its President Khalifa Mohammed Al Rumaithi and CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall on the peaceful uses of outer space and the promotion of space applications to support economic, social and scientific development.

To mark its creation, UAESA today organized an official launch ceremony at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC) in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa ben Zayed Al-Nahyane and a large audience of representatives from the international space community.

After the ceremony, Jean-Yves Le Gall commented: “I would like first of all to congratulate UAESA for this remarkable launch ceremony. While it has waited until today for its official launch, UAESA has long demonstrated its ambitions and desire to be a key player in space. Over the last two years or so, I have met UAESA’s President on several occasions to formally enshrine numerous avenues of cooperation. I am delighted to see the United Arab Emirates officially join today the community of space nations and the international space community present here in Abu Dhabi is impressed by their commitment to make space and its applications a central component of their development policy.”
