CNES at 64th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Beijing, 23-27 September

A delegation of CNES scientists, engineers and officials led by agency president Jean-Yves Le Gall is at the 64th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) being held in Beijing, 23-27 September.

CNES is adopting a high profile at the 64th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) with a large fresco for the Chinese and international public in French, English and Mandarin showcasing CNES’s five core activities—Ariane, science, Earth observation, telecommunications and defence—and some spectacular views of Paris from the Pleiades satellites.

The CNES exhibition space was opened in the presence of a number of high-ranking Chinese officials, French Senator Bertrand Auban, who chairs the GPE parliamentary space group, and French Guiana MP and GPE vice-chair Chantal Berthelot.

CNES will be meeting many key institutional and industry chiefs in Beijing from around the world. In particular, Jean-Yves Le Gall will meet with agency officials from Roscosmos for Russia, DLR for Germany, NASA for the United States and ISA for Israel. For China, he will attend the regular meeting between CNES and CNSA, and hold discussions with Chinese space industry firms and representatives of the Chinese science academy. He will also attend the annual meeting of the Bureau of the International Astronautical Federation (IAF), of which he is a Vice-President.

I am delighted that CNES is projecting such a strong presence here, confirming after our participation at last year’s event in Naples that we are committed to playing an increasingly important role in the international space arena in support of France’s economic diplomacy. Further, CNES will be putting forward France’s candidacy to organize the 69th IAC in 2018 and doing everything we can to secure that aim.”
