CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall meets Bo Andersen, Director General of the Norwegian Space Centre CNES and KSAT sign framework agreement

Wednesday 18 December, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall met Bo Andersen, Director General of the Norwegian Space Centre (NSC) and leader of the Norwegian delegation to the European Space Agency (ESA).

On this occasion, CNES and Norwegian operator Konsberg Satellite Services AS (KSAT) signed a framework agreement under which KSAT will supply services through its global station network to complement CNES’s own network and thus optimize coverage of the French agency’s space missions.

This agreement marks a new phase in the excellent relations that CNES has established with its Norwegian partner. The two nations are also expected to sign a new agreement enabling Norway to take part in the IASI-NG programme to develop a new-generation very-high-precision operational meteorology sounder.

The meeting with Bo Andersen also gave the two agency heads the opportunity to continue their exchange of views on the next ESA Ministerial Conference to be held in Luxembourg in 2014, pursuing discussions from their previous meeting on 6 September on the key issues of launch vehicles—Ariane 6 in particular—the International Space Station (ISS) and relations between ESA and the European Union.

After the meeting, Jean-Yves Le Gall stated: “France and Norway have established longstanding and constructive ties, both through bilateral cooperation and through ESA programmes. I am very pleased with this latest meeting with Bo Andersen, which will enable CNES to secure operations for its space missions through the agreement signed today with KSAT while paving the way for future collaborative endeavours with NSC.”
