CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall meets European Commission Vice-President Maroš Šefcovic; in Brussels

Friday 5 December in Brussels, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall met Maroš Šef?ovi?, Vice-President of the European Commission, responsible for Energy Union and coordination of strategic policies for Transport and Space.

Three days after the historic success of the Ministerial Council meeting of the European Space Agency (ESA), Jean-Yves Le Gall and Maroš Šef?ovi? met to discuss the results of the decisions reached by Europe’s space ministers in Luxembourg that give spacefaring Europe the means to meet the major challenges that lie ahead, notably in the domain of launch services.

They discussed the Galileo and Copernicus programmes, the two European flagship programmes set to serve as a springboard for the burgeoning space services and applications market. In this context, the revision by the European Commission, ESA and member states of Europe’s space policy, combined with measures to strengthen its governance, will boost the competitiveness of the European space sector.

After the meeting, Jean-Yves Le Gall commented: “We had a very fruitful and constructive meeting with Vice-President Šef?ovi?. We noted with satisfaction the advances accomplished in the European Space Policy, both with respect to the decisions reached in Luxembourg confirming the absolute necessity of sustaining our independent access to space, and to the actions envisioned by the European Union to support the competitiveness of European industry.”
