CNES R&T day on space systems of the future Thursday 29 January, 8.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m., Pierre Baudis Congress Centre, Toulouse

As it does every year, CNES is organizing a one-day event to present its new R&T plan designed to conceive the space systems of the future. Thursday 29 January, the agency is inviting the industry contractors and research laboratories with which it works, as well as its European partners, with a view to harmonizing R&T programmes in Europe.

This day is a key element of R&T plans for the space sector where CNES presents the activities it has decided to pursue with its partners in the years ahead.

The 500-plus participants that attend this event every year represent a broad spectrum of interests including the Midi-Pyrenees regional council, officials from government, European space agencies, science and technology research organizations, partner prime contractors and more than 100 companies from SMEs to international corporations, including software houses.

Besides informing participants about R&T, presentations will aim to bring the space community up to date with the latest news in the sector and showcase R&T results already being used in space projects.

The event will also provide a status check on the organization and optimization of France’s response to the European Horizon 2020 programme, and on innovations resulting from CNES’s own R&T efforts. The day will close with an update on the Rosetta-Philae mission that has fired public enthusiasm around the world.

CNES sets its R&T plan annually after a call for ideas that are evaluated and then ranked according to their pertinence. The plan covers some 300 actions with a budget on the order of €20 million and is the bedrock for building innovations vital to future technology developments and industrial projects. Over the years, CNES’s R&T day has become a must-attend event for the European space systems sector.
