Jean-Yves Le Gall reappointed CNES President

At the proposal of the Minister for Education, Higher Education and Research, the French government meeting in cabinet today reappointed Jean-Yves Le Gall as President of the French space agency CNES, which he has headed since April 2013.

On the announcement of his reappointment, Jean-Yves Le Gall made this statement: “I would like to thank the President, the Prime Minister and the government for this honour of being reappointed as CNES President. I also want to thank the Members of Parliament on the Economic Affairs Committees of the French National Assembly and Senate, who shared the space policy vision that I presented at my hearing, as well as CNES’s Board of Directors for the faith they have shown in putting forward my appointment to head the agency. I am delighted to see that for the first time the Board has achieved perfect parity, with nine female and nine male members.”

He added: “I also want to thank the senior management team and all the men and women I have come to know and like at CNES over these last two years. Their talent, commitment and professionalism command the utmost respect. I was very touched that certain employee representatives on the Board supported my reappointment. I see this as a sign of a shared belief in the strategy we are engaging together from day to day, which we must pursue with unrelenting drive and energy.”

Jean-Yves Le Gall concluded: “My roadmap can be summed up in three words: innovating to win. Those words embody the course we must follow in the years ahead: We achieved this for Ariane 6, where the key to success was in rethinking our modes of advocacy. Likewise, as we face the challenges posed by climate change, connecting the whole world to the Internet and globalization, we must continue to adapt the way we work. CNES’s ability to keep innovating is in my view the only way that France will succeed in preserving a world-class space sector at a time when the international space arena is evolving at a very fast pace.”
