At the end of his career in the French Air Force that began in 1972, General de Roquefeuil joined the French defence procurement agency DGA where from 2006 to 2009 he was Deputy Director and Head of the Force Systems Architecture Office, at the Force Systems and Technology, Industry and Cooperation Strategies Directorate. He left active duty on 31 August 2009 to join CNES as Military Advisor to the President and coordinator of the Defence Team.
General Philippe Steininger will take up his post as Military Advisor to the President and coordinator of the Defence Team on 1 November. After a brilliant career of more than 35 years in the French Air Force, his experience in command and strategy led to his recent appointment as Deputy Secretary General for defence and national security.
Working closely with the Ministry of Armed Forces and in particular its Space functions, the Military Advisor to the CNES President facilitates coordination between the armed forces, DGA and CNES. As coordinator of the agency’s Defence Team, he organizes defence-related activities, which include forward planning, project execution and implementation of dual-use systems. He also contributes to CNES’s actions in the field of international relations and communication where defence aspects are involved.
On the occasion of General Henry de Roquefeuil’s departure, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall said: “General Henry de Roquefeuil brought his passion and energy to the task of promoting CNES’s visibility within the defence community, helping to raise space’s profile while assuring strong recognition for the agency from the Ministry of Armed Forces. These efforts with the armed forces and DGA recently led the Ministry to present a strategic vision of space, a sector that is now a key element of our national defence.”
