SPACEFOUNDERS, LAUREATE START-UPS IN TOULOUSE TO LAUNCH BOOST PHASE

After Munich in early September, SpaceFounders, CNES’s French-German accelerator programme devoted 100% to space is in Toulouse from 11 to 15 October for an intensive week-long session with the 10 European laureate start-ups. The programme is now entering its BOOST phase aimed at accelerating each start-up, notably through access to customers, partners, suppliers and key resources in Europe’s aerospace capitals.

The laureates will shortly be entering the third FUND phase of the programme, which notably includes a series of Demo Days. The Paris Demo Day will be held on 25 November at the Hôtel de la Marine, comprising meet-ups with investors, partners and key institutional customers followed by a session focused on CNES’s commitment to sustaining a European ecosystem of space start-ups to compete with space industry behemoths and start-ups from the United States and Asia.

SpaceFounders is a highly intensive, high-quality programme running for 10 weeks. Start-ups selected are backed by CNES’s strong network and infrastructures, and by those at Bundeswehr University Munich (UniBw). They also get support from exclusive partners like the European Space Agency (ESA) and the German Aerospace Centre DLR. SpaceFounders is able to tap into a unique community of more than 100 mentors from among the top players in the European space and digital ecosystem, offering start-ups tailored assistance in technical, business and financial areas.

During this stopover in Toulouse, CNES and UniBw officialized their cooperation at a meeting between the agency’s Chairman & CEO Philippe Baptiste and UniBw President Merith Niehuss.

The 10 SpaceFounders laureate start-ups are:
•    DCubeD supplies deployable structures for nanosatellites
•    Infinite Orbits offers orbital services to help satellite operators optimize their fleets and extend satellite lifetime
•    Interstellar lab is focused on sustainable agriculture for the planet with controlled-environment modules that it aims to adapt to space for the Moon and Mars
•    Mission Space, with its fleet of nanosatellites, is developing a global system for forecasting and monitoring space weather, one of the world’s highest-priority natural risks
•    OKAPI.Orbits proposes an AI-optimized space traffic management platform for operation and control of space assets
•    Pangea Aerospace is developing high-efficiency propulsion systems and reusable launchers
•    Share My Space is seeking to address the issue of space debris with high-added-value products and services designed to enhance safety in space
•    Village Data Analytics proposes indicators derived from geospatial imagery for isolated villages
•    VorteX.io, notably through space technology spin-off, supplies hydrology data geared towards preventing floods through hybrid GSM/space IoT connectivity
•    Zephalto offers passengers the chance of embarking on a balloon cruise to view the Earth from the stratosphere
