CP058-2008 - Space in my city in Bordeaux on 27.10.09

"SPACE IN MY CITY 2008" ENDS ITS 4th TOUR DE FRANCE OF FUN SCIENCE IN BORDEAUX!

Bordeaux will be the last stop, from 27 to 31 October.

Created on the initiative of the Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales (CNES), the French Space agency, for the benefit of young people from deprived neighbourhoods or recreation centres, "Space in my City" is part of the Ministry for Housing and Urban Development's outreach project, Ville-Vie-Vacances and will be organised by the National Agency for Social Cohesion and Equality of Opportunity (ACSE). The operation is also sponsored by the Ministry for Higher Education and Research, the Ministry for Health, Youth and Sport, Spot Image and each participating city. The Planète Sciences association coordinates and implements the events at both a local and national level.

The "Space in my City" operation has four objectives:

• develop the potential of young people and their projects,
• promote their neighbourhoods and cities,
• encourage long-lasting, local initiatives in favour of science and technology activities, in particular those with a Space theme,
• enable young people to have fun with practical science.

From 27 to 31 October, young people are invited to Cap Sciences, Quai de Bacalan in Bordeaux (Hangar 20) to participate at no charge in workshops devoted to activities such as building water-powered rockets, satellites, Mars robot vehicles etc.

There will be a PRESS BRIEFING, on Tuesday 28 October at 2 pm, at Cap Sciences, Quai de Bacalan in Bordeaux. Journalists will be able to meet the young people involved in the various workshops.
