CNES brings together space stakeholders and users at the 2014 Toulouse Space Show

In session since Monday, The fourth Toulouse Space Show is a must-attend event for institutional space stakeholders and users, bringing together 1,500 visitors and 100 exhibitors from 30 countries. With roundtable discussions, an international exhibition, demonstrations and a business convention, it is a focus for users of space applications and the people driving innovation in space.

Opened on Monday by Geneviève Fioraso, Secretary of State for Higher Education and Research, the 2014 Toulouse Space Show is pursuing an ambitious programme. Organized by CNES in partnership with the Midi-Pyrenees regional council, the Toulouse urban community, the Sicoval inter-borough council, the Toulouse chamber of commerce and industry and the Midi-Pyrenees Expansion economic development agency, this year’s event has attracted 1,500 people and 100 exhibitors from 30 countries.

The 2014 show features roundtable discussions with users and institutional stakeholders eager to spotlight their expertise in space infrastructures and applications. This is what makes the Toulouse Space Show a truly international showcase.

Intelligent transport, telecoms, space-related services, exporting know-how and crisis management were just a few of topics discussed during the roundtable sessions, emphasizing lessons learned and exchanging experience and impressions with users. Alongside the roundtables, the show is also hosting an international exhibition with stands and demonstrations from over 100 exhibitors and putting on a business convention focused on space applications and the space industry.

CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall delivered the opening keynote speech alongside ESA Director General Jean-Jacques Dordain and Airbus Group CEO Tom Enders, taking the opportunity to pay tribute to “the Midi-Pyrenees region’s vibrant and constantly innovating space sector, which supports some 16,000 jobs, making it Europe’s leading designer and producer of space systems and applications.” He also commended the event for “the way it is showcasing space industry expertise and related business activities, which is why the Toulouse Space Show is such a major event for space professionals and users.”

On Tuesday 1 July at the Cité de l’Espace in Toulouse, the prizegiving ceremony for the first #ActInSpace competition (http://www.cnes.fr/web/CNES-fr/11210-actinspace.php) was also held under the banner of the Toulouse Space Show. Organized by CNES, this competition gets students, entrepreneurs, researchers, programmers, designers and space enthusiasts working together to solve problems set by CNES in just 24 hours, the idea being to promote the use of space technologies for citizens, job creation and the planet. The winners, MM. Masson, Arago, Pawlak and Valenzuela, received four plane tickets to French Guiana to watch an Ariane 5 launch.
